A long time ago, Sumatra Island was known. as Andalas Island. At the time, the island was divided into two big islands. The islands were separated by a strait. There were kingdoms in those two islands. They were Daru Kingdom and Alam Kingdom.
People in Alam Kingdom lived happily and peacefully. Their island was fertile. Trees grew very well. They also had lots of water. Their king, Sultan Alam, was wise. He led his people very well.
Meanwhile, people in Daru Kingdom did not live happily. They had trouble in growing trees. It happened because they did not have enough water, Rain did not fall regularly. Their lives were getting worse because their king, Sultan Daru, was a mean king.
Sultan Daru was jealous with Sultan Alam. He planned to attack Alam Kingdom and occupy it. He had tried to send his soldiers to cross the strait and attack Alam Kingdom. However his soldiers were never able to cross the strait. In fact, some of them did not dare to cross the strait. Why? Well, it was because there lived a dragon in the strait. The dragon was a friend of Sultan Alam. That was why the dragon always protected his friend from his enemies.
Sultan Daru was upset. He asked his advisor how to beat the dragon. The advisor said that the dragon could only be beaten by two giants. Their names were Seulawah Inong and Seulawah Agam.
"Find the giants. Tell them, I will give anything they want if they can kill the dragon!" ordered Sultan Daru to the soldiers.
The giants accepted the king's request. Soon, they went to the strait and the dragon heard that the giants came to kill him. So, he immediately talked to Sultan Alam.
"So far, I can handle Sultan Daru's soldier. But this time is different. The giants are so powerful. If I'm dead, the two islands will join as one island. You will feel an earthquake. Later, you will find lots fish in the beach. Don't take them! You have to ask your people to go to the higher grounds. The higher is the better. Climb hill or mountains," advised the dragon.
Not long after that, the giants came to the strait. at first, the fight was balance. The dragon could fight very well. However, slowly he lost his power. The giants were too powerful for him. Finally, the dragon was dead.
After the dragon was killed, Sultan Daru and his soldiers immediately crossed the strait. sultan AIam was sad when he heard that his friend was killed. He immediately asked his people to go to higher grounds.
What the dragon said was true! There was a big earthquake! Slowly, water in the sea disappeared. Fish were on the beach! Sultan Daru, the soldiers, and the giants were happy. They were busy collecting the fish.
Suddenly big waves were coming! Sultan Daru, the soldiers, and the giants were drowned! They all were dead!
From the distance, Sultan AIam watched the incident. He was very thankful because the dragon had told him to ask his people to go to the higher ground.
Meanwhile the dragon's body slowly changed into an island. People later named it as Sabang Island. ***
