Putri Bunga (Flower Princess) and the Prince of Fish

Putri Bunga and the Golden Fish Prince: The Miracle of Kindness and Sincerity

Putri Bunga was a kind-hearted girl. She lived with her uncle and aunt in a quiet little village. Her parents had passed away when she was just a baby, leaving her an orphan. Despite the challenges in her life, Putri Bunga grew up to be a diligent and compassionate girl.

One morning, after sweeping and mopping the house, she spoke to her aunt.
"Aunty, I’ve finished all the chores. Now I want to go to the river to wash the dirty plates, spoons, forks, and the cooking pot," said Putri Bunga.

"All right, dear. But be careful there, and don’t take too long. Come home immediately after you’re done," her aunt reminded her.

"I will, Aunty," replied Putri Bunga with a smile.

Full of enthusiasm, Putri Bunga took the dirty kitchen utensils and hurried to the river. Her aunt watched her leave with a loving smile.

On her way to the river, Putri Bunga sang cheerful songs that brightened the morning. She greeted the villagers she met along the way, and they warmly greeted her back. Everyone in the village knew her as a polite and kind-hearted girl.

When she arrived at the riverside, she immediately began washing the dirty dishes. She placed the cleaned ones on the riverbank one by one. She washed the plates, spoons, forks, and finally, the large cooking pot.

However, while she was cleaning the forks, a large golden fish was swept by the current and ended up inside her cooking pot. Putri Bunga didn’t notice the fish; she was too focused on finishing her work.

Suddenly, a soft yet urgent voice called out to her.

"Princess Blossom, please help me!"

Princess Blossom was startled and paused for a moment. She looked around, trying to find the source of the voice, but all she could see were the calm ripples of the river and the trees reflected on the water’s surface. There was no one in sight. After a few moments of confusion, she went back to washing the fork in her hand.

However, the voice called out again, this time clearer and more insistent.

"Princess Blossom, please help me. I am in the cooking pot."

Princess Blossom froze, her curiosity piqued. She stood still, her mind racing. What did the voice mean? Who was calling her? Intrigued and slightly concerned, she stopped washing the dishes and slowly walked over to the cooking pot sitting nearby. With caution, she bent down to take a closer look, trying to spot something unusual.

When her eyes focused on the pot, she was surprised to see something moving inside. A large fish, shimmering with golden scales, was swimming in the pot.

"A golden fish?" Princess Blossom murmured in confusion. "How did you end up in this pot?" she asked, her brow furrowed.

The fish appeared calm despite being in such an odd situation. She gently lifted the pot, making sure not to spill the water. Suddenly, the fish leaped out of the pot, floating in the air for a moment before landing softly in the palm of her hand.

Princess Blossom was astonished. She looked down at the golden fish in her hand, her curiosity deepening. "What is happening here?" she thought, observing the fish, which seemed to be waiting for something.

Carefully, she held the fish closer and spoke softly, "I will release you back into the river, golden fish. But why were you in the pot? What happened to you?"

At that moment, the fish moved slightly, and to her surprise, the same gentle voice that had called out earlier echoed in her ears, now even closer, more distinct than before.

But before she could release the golden fish back into the river, something incredible happened. The shimmering creature in her hands began to glow even brighter. Startled, Putri Bunga watched as the fish began to change shape, the golden scales dissolving into fine streams of light. In the blink of an eye, the fish transformed into a handsome man, tall and graceful, dressed in robes of shimmering gold.

"Don't be afraid, Putri Bunga. I am the golden fish you found. In truth, I am a prince from the kingdom of fish. I was swept by the river’s current and accidentally ended up in your cooking pot."

Putri Bunga stood frozen, astonished by the revelation.

"I have been watching you for a long time, Putri Bunga. Every time you come to the river, I observe from a distance. You are very beautiful, and your heart is so kind. I have fallen in love with you. Will you marry me?" the fish prince said gently.

Putri Bunga was confused. She never imagined she would be proposed to by a fish prince. However, seeing the sincerity in his eyes, she smiled and said,
"I will marry you. But you must live with me, my uncle, and my aunt on land. And you must make us happy."

The fish prince agreed to these terms without hesitation. He and Putri Bunga were married. The prince used his powers to improve their lives. He brought prosperity to the village by managing the river's flow, ensuring it carried clean water and abundant fish.

Putri Bunga, the fish prince, and their family lived happily ever after, inspiring the villagers with their love and kindness.

The Brothers and the Giant: A Tale of Courage and Brotherhood

Siuk Bimbim dan Siuk Bambam >> Edisi Indonesia

A Folktale from Central Kalimantan

In the dense, mist-covered forests of Kalimantan, where towering trees whispered secrets to the wind and rivers shimmered like silver threads, lived two brothers—Siuk Bimbim and Siuk Bambam. Orphaned at a young age, they had only each other and the small wooden house their parents had once called home. Though time had weathered its walls and moss crept gently along the roof, the house still stood—humble yet sturdy, holding memories in every beam.

They had known loss from a young age; their parents had passed away when Siuk Bimbim was still cradled in his brother's arms. Siuk Bambam, though still a child himself, vowed to protect his younger brother no matter the cost. He made sure Siuk Bimbim was fed, clothed, and comforted, even when food was scarce or the nights grew cold. The forest became both their refuge and playground; they knew every trail, every birdcall, every stream that sang as it wound its way through the trees.

Life was not easy, but the brothers’ bond made it meaningful. They never quarreled, not even over small things. Siuk Bambam, patient and protective, taught his younger brother how to fish, climb trees, and listen to the signs of nature. Siuk Bimbim, full of curiosity and laughter, brought lightness to even the darkest days. Together, they shared a quiet joy—born not from riches, but from love, trust, and the simple magic of growing up side by side.

An Evening at Their Home

One warm afternoon, the sun began to set. Siuk Bambam, with great care, stirred a pot of rice in the kitchen.

“Bimbim, it’s getting late. We don’t have enough food for dinner tonight. I have to go to the barn now to get some rice,” he said.

“Don’t be gone too long, okay, Bambam? Please come back quickly!” Siuk Bimbim replied anxiously.

“Don’t worry. Lock the door and don’t open it for anyone except me, okay?” Siuk Bambam assured him, then stepped outside.

As Siuk Bambam hurried away, Siuk Bimbim felt tired after a long day. Before long, drowsiness overtook him, and he fell into a deep sleep.

When Danger Approaches

The peaceful atmosphere inside the house was suddenly shattered by loud knocks on the door. Siuk Bimbim awoke, his heart racing.

“What was that?” he thought, frightened.

He looked out the window and was shocked to see a giant standing at the door.

“Open the door, little boy! I’m very hungry!” the giant’s voice boomed.

Fear pushed Siuk Bimbim to flee. He ran as fast as he could, continuing until his legs felt weak, and finally collapsed unconscious beneath a tree.

Return to the House

Meanwhile, Siuk Bambam returned from the barn, hands full of rice and vegetables. However, as he approached the house, he noticed something suspicious—the door stood wide open, and the interior was a mess.

“Siuk Bimbim! Where are you?” he shouted, panic rising.

There was no response. As he looked at the footprints leading away from the house, his heart trembled. The prints were not his brother's; they were the giant's!

“Bimbim, no! Where are you?” he cried again, searching everywhere.

Finally, he spotted a small figure beneath a tree, his brother lying unconscious.

“Bimbim! Wake up, Bimbim!” Siuk Bambam rushed over and shook him gently.

At the Magic Well

Siuk Bimbim didn’t respond, and panic overwhelmed Siuk Bambam. Quickly, he lifted Siuk Bimbim and took him to a well known for its magical properties—a place that could heal any illness.

“Drink this water, Bimbim! It can heal you!” Siuk Bambam dropped a few drops of water from the well into Siuk Bimbim's mouth.

After a while, Siuk Bimbim began to regain consciousness, his eyes slowly opening.

“Bambam? Is that you?” he asked weakly.

“Yes, I’m here! The water from this well will make you strong again. I was so worried about you,” Siuk Bambam replied with relief.

With a few sips of the magical water, Siuk Bimbim felt his strength return. He smiled and hugged Siuk Bambam tightly.

“I thought I had lost you! What happened?” he asked, still confused.

“A giant came to our house. But I will never let you down!” Siuk Bambam vowed.

Preparing to Face the Giant

The two brothers walked home, promising not to let anything like that happen again. Siuk Bambam looked at the mess in the house and felt tension in his heart.

“We need to be prepared, Bimbim. If that giant comes back, we have to find a way to face him,” said Siuk Bambam.

“Yes, we can work together! Maybe we can ask the animals in the forest for help. They know this place well,” suggested Siuk Bimbim, a spark of determination returning to his eyes.

“Great idea! We will gather the animals and make a plan. No giant can defeat us if we stand united!” Siuk Bambam said, full of confidence.

The Strength of Brotherhood

As the sun set and the stars began to twinkle, the two brothers prepared for their next adventure. They knew that together, they could face any challenge that lay ahead.

“No matter how big that giant is, our bond is much bigger,” said Siuk Bimbim, gazing at the night sky.

“And together, we will always find a way!” replied Siuk Bambam, smiling proudly.

With renewed spirits, they sat beneath the stars, planning their next journey, confident that whatever happened, they would always stand together.

Moral Message:

This story reminds us that true courage often shines in the face of danger. Siuk Bambam’s unwavering determination to protect his brother, Siuk Bimbim, illustrates the profound strength of brotherhood. It teaches us that, even in the darkest times, love and commitment can guide us through perilous situations. By standing together and looking out for one another, we can overcome any giant that may come our way.
